      REUNION SONGS

THE VOODOO, CLUNK AND YOU MY FRIEND

Lyrics by Bob Gillet (Tune-Lili Marlene)

There were lots of squadrons
Many years ago
Flying in a Clunk
Was different don't you know
It wouldn't go fast enough they say
To catch those guys in TCA
But we'd soon have a brand new plane
To take the pain away.

We knew that Avro Arrow
Would put us on the map
But wily John, he came along
And sawed them up for scrap
And then he did something really dense
A Bomarc "thing" for our defence
And then we were disbanded
It didn't make much sense.

The Bomarc was a bust
They took our clunks away
Went shopping for an intercepter
In the USA
Sixty-six Voodoos, not brand new
We didn't care, at least they flew
They came with Silver Bullets and
Thank God, a crew of two.

We were back in business
ADC was swell
Supersonic snapups
That airplane went like hell
It's all over now, but it was grand
We made our mark, we made our stand
The Voodoo, Clunk and you my friend
In Air Defence Command.

POUR US A DOUBLE

Lyrics by Bob Gillet (Tune-Pack up You Troubles)

Pour us a double and we'll chew the rag
And smile, smile, smile
Sometimes on squadron we were in the bag
But boy we had some style, well sometimes
What's the use of worrying
It never was worthwhile, so
Pour us a double and we'll chew the rag
And smile, smile, smile.

Pour us a double and we'll reminisce
And smile, smile, smile
We're gonna talk about the days we miss
When Avro was in style, ORENDA
Bomarcs were for burying
They never were worthwhile, so
Pour us a double and we'll reminisce
And smile, smile, smile.

Pour us a double and we'll have a chat
And smile, smile, smile
Broadcast Control was never worth a rat
We missed them by a mile, or fifty
Chaff made my life miserable
And ECM was vile, so
Pour us a double and we'll have a chat
And smile, smile, smile.

Pour us a double for the hell we raised
And smile, smile, smile
Forty years later and I'm still amazed
'Cause there is no denial, that Voodoo
Burner take-offs woke the dead
Their thrust was quite beguil...ing
Pour us a double for the hell we raised
And smile, smile, smile.

Pour us a double and we'll shoot the breeze
And smile, smile, smile
There are so many happy memories
In that old squadron file, remember
Life is short, but we are here
So linger just a while, and
Pour us a double and we'll shoot the breeze
And smile, smile, smile.

THE GUYS I USED TO KNOW

Lyrics by Bob Gillet (Tune-It's a Long Way to Tipperary)

It's a long time since I was merry
It's a long time ago
It's a long time since I was merry
With the guys I used to know
On squadron.........
Goodbye to the Voodoo
Farewell to the Clunk
But it's a long, long time since I was merry
With you, you big hunk.

WE WERE THERE

Lyrics by Bob Gillet (Tune-Over There)

We were there, we were there
When the CLUNK wasn't junk
We were there
The ORENDAS humming
The Russians coming
And there was panic everywhere
In the air, we were there
We were two, to a crew
What a pair
Now it's over
We're out to clover
But we won't forget
We were lucky, we were there.
